I want to bond the thin aluminum plates to glass fiber/epoxy composite laminates using VIP method. The problem is that the aluminum plates debond from composite laminates specially from coroners of specimens. It should be noted that the surface of aluminum plates were cleaned by acid and alkaline solution prior to bonding process. Are there certain method to bonding these materials together?

I am no specialist in this but I do need to get epoxi to stick in a variety of field situations.
For what it is worth.
- Try sand blasting the metal surfaces (if at all possible). Making the surfaces more rugged usually helps with epoxi.
- If the epoxi laminate has already been manufactured before bonding - sand the epoxi surface as this enables the molecules to bind better to the new epoxi.
- Take extra care to make sure there are no traces of oil/silicone based products in the vicinity. You do not need much to get bonding problems.Those who are serious about this have separate rooms for oil/silicone based products.
- Sometimes, application of a thin layer of PUR glue may help as an interface betwee the metal and the Epoxi
