Samiha M.Gharib et all (2000), WEEKLY STRUCTURE AND ABUNDANCE OF PHYTOPLANKTON IN BOUGHAZEL- MAADIYA, EGYPT, Egypt J.Aquat Biol & Fish, VoL 4, No.2:183 -210 (2000)
Within abundant submerged vegetation, that changes water movement, particularly in shallow water bodies, small-celled phytoplankters are often met. This is a result of an influence of increased sedimentation of particles suspended in water column that is caused by dense macrophyte beds. This sedimentation concerns also large cells or colonies of non motile phytoplankton species, which are eliminated in favor of smaller and motile forms, actively counteracting falling down. Chara meadows are claimed to be particularly responsible for this phytoplankton shift being one of the mechanisms which can lead to an elevated water clarity in Chara lakes.
There are several interrelated factors affect directly and the other indirectly on the presence and density of phytoplankton Including physical and chemical attributes in addition to the morphology of aquatic systems.
