I am looking for thermal data for the UK, I need high resolution data. The reason for that is analyzing the heat loss from urban areas and investigating the thermal response of different urban materials. The data can be temperature or multispectral thermal band
The best place to start looking for that information is The British Atmospheric Data Centre (BADC) http://badc.nerc.ac.uk/home/index.html
It depends on what you mean by high resolution and what the application is. Can you tell us what tools/ software you are intending to model the urban areas and materials with? Typically for the built environment there are standard climate data file formats for most common climatic variables e.g TRY, DSY, EPW, IWEC etc. You can also download probabilistic current and future data at a 5km grid resolution from the UKCP Weather Generator. There is also pre formatted WG data available in TRY and DSY format from the Prometheus website http://emps.exeter.ac.uk/research/energy-environment/cee/projects/prometheus/. These files tend to contain ambient temp and global irradiation, etc but not detailed spectral data. It all depends on what you need. Urban areas are typically harder to model (accurately) at a very high resolution due to highly localised and transient UHI effects caused by re-radiation from nearby objects, heat canyon effects etc. A number of researchers have set out methods to improve the accuracy of modelling buildings in the London UHI (see Kershaw et al. for example).
