I am wondering what the difference is between Radar and LiDAR data in terms of what we can get out of each one and the characteristics such as resolution and wave range and if it is available from space born or air porn craft. Also what we can get when we combine them with optical passive sensors.

I already did some reading but could not find key differences. People who have experience with Radar and LiDAR might come up with appropriate answers. I know LiDAR uses laser pulses and Radar is a microwave, but I need some more details from professionals.
Broadly speaking, in Geoscices, Radar sensors deliver images as optical sensors. LiDAR, deliver could of points which measure the distance between the instrument and the target. So the first is used to get information about the surface properties (roughness or soil moisture for example) . LiDAR is used to produce elevation surface model (reproduction of the shape of the surface).

I'm studying LIDAR and equations are similar to RADAR and LIDAR. The systems are different, while the LIDAR / laser has a coherent wave in time and space, the radar emits a broad radiation, or not as the laser spot. The laser emits pulses off. And yet, RADAR works in the microwave region of the laser and infra-red usually.
