Laura - Education programs should focus on bettering student achievements, focus on career, improve education quality, professional development. A good, high-quality education is to do with outcomes. An outcome is a culminating demonstration of learning. It occurs after the completion of the academic program. It is a result of learning, which is a visible and observable demonstration of three main things—knowledge, combined with competence and combined with orientations. It is these three factors that determine the quality in higher education. Here is a list of initiatives which can improve the quality of higher education.
1. Acknowledge and address overcrowding,
2. Make appropriate funding a priority,
3. Raise standards for teachers,
4. Invest in research. Research is crucial if higher education want to improve its reputation,
5. Listen to the students. It is important to get student opinion to improve quality,
6. Sophisticated and innovative learning approaches in higher education will improve quality in the fast-changing education industry,
7. Transforming the Curriculum,
8. Teachers and instructors should adapt to the changing needs and make classroom sessions more interactive with easy access to knowledge.
As Benjamin Franklin states, An educational system is " an investment in knowledge (which) pays the best interest". Since the future success of the plans for advancing every society depends on the philosophy behind it , we can consider education as a bridge linking the present with tomorrow. Therefore, to make our future bright , we have to think of the required provisions today. Generally speaking, the most important measure of an educational system , at least to me, is not only creating the knowledge and skills needed for the society it serves, but also imbuing the graduates with infinite unconditional love and care for mankind.
Perhaps before any improvement taking place, stakeholders need to identify where they are now & where they want to reach, then we can figure out what improvements are needed in short, mid & long term plans.
Higher education needs a total revamp in most countries. The realities of world job markets have changed because of computerization and shift in what is being consumed and produced and consumed -- more information, and services, rather than industrial goods. Higher education systems need to be aligned better with the skills needed in job markets across the globe.
Higher education can be improved through the adoption and sponsorship of private companies to research students and researchers, which help to increase the pace of scientific research and application.
Proposing that the different orientations of each university, with priority setting in relation to the requirements of the state and the needs of the community, reorient budgets to parts of them, develop research, develop agreements for international cooperation and share experiences
Two levels of higher education programs are now available world wide, Master of Science and PhD. In my opinion, MSci program intends to teach those that try to become a scientist, How to identify problems, and how to approach and try to solve the problem. Thus, it is teaching them that technically how to do research. If the research is really unique and novel, it is great. PhD program is where you should show your creativity and ability to come up with novel solutions to some problems, that somehow addes to the knowledge on that particular field and paves the way to bring up that knowledge or technology to help in advancement of societies. So, perhaps there is not a single thing to do to improve higher education. But the colleagues here shared some good opinions, that would be nice to collectively be used as a plan or policy for higher education advancement. Good and advanced research facilities, keen and dedicated people (particularly both professors and students themselves), and good relationship and cooperation between private sector and academics are some of the things that can improve higher education.
The main way to improve higher education is to determine its role. For this to be achieved, I think that the role of higher education today is not only to develop students’ knowledge expertise but also to Increased their readiness for the labor market.
Higher education should be available for all, not just the rich. It is free in some countries (Greece, used to be in the UK) and in others it is free for some (free for natives in Canada).
Hi, To find out a valuable answer please read about Tecnologico de Monterrey, Mexico, a Mexican University with a unique education model that is recently launched. I think this is what we should do to improve higher education worldwide. https://tec.mx/en/model-tec21
Higher education.....should improve in a way to give awareness of practical applicability with basic principles of respective area to serve the environment and human kind with ethics and morals etc.,
Dear Colleagues and Friends from RG, In many countries, colleges and universities, including universities and vocational colleges, are trying to adapt the offer of their studies, including fields of study and specialties, to rapidly changing economies. Structural changes in economies are correlated with the pace of technical progress, the change in the demographic structure of the society, the pace and specificity of the development of individual branches and sectors of the economy, the effectiveness of socio-economic development policy, the change in the importance and share of certain economic goods sold in the markets in the structure of citizens' consumption, change in cycle periods the lives of particular types of goods and services, etc. The above determinants of changes in economic processes and entire national economies also cause specific structural and economic changes in labor markets. Therefore, universities are also trying to change, above all, change the offer of their studies in such a way as to follow structural, economic, social, etc. changes taking place in national economies. First of all, the offer of their studies, including fields of study and specialties, universities try to adapt to changing labor markets. Therefore, in advertising campaigns there is more and more information suggesting that a particular university prepares students well for entering the labor market primarily through effective and attractive combination of theory and practice. The issue of practice and practicalisation of fields of study, greater adaptation of fields of study and specialties to specific professions and occupations, in which companies and institutions are looking for specialists for specific jobs is particularly important. As part of streamlining the fields of study in a significant part of the university, students are required to undergo several monthly apprenticeships in selected companies and institutions in order to gain practical experience of working in a specific professional specialty, in a job related to the studied specialty.
On the other hand, studies are already available and available to a significant proportion of high school graduates. In recent years, studying has become commonplace among young people, and therefore a university diploma alone is not a guarantee of finding employment in a specific learned profession, i.e. a job in a profession correlated with the specialty of completed studies. According to the data of the Polish Business Council "Student at work 2019", as many as 8 out of 10 students already have the first experience related to specific work in a company or institution as part of employment or in the field of internship or professional practice. The above-mentioned studies were conducted on a group of students, among which 3/4 participants of these studies studied on full-time studies (conducted as full-time studies). To the main determinants of taking up work or apprenticeships, students pointed to the possibility of obtaining competences useful in a given profession and financial issues. However, not all students choose apprenticeships related to the specialization of studies. Some students prefer to take up work while studying in professions not related to the specialty of their studies, mainly due to financial considerations. This type of job selection not related to the specialty being studied results from the fact that apprenticeships and internships are low paid or carried out by students as volunteers.
On the other hand, universities are trying to meet the needs of students who, while studying, take up work for gain and gain practical experience. Because also the majority of full-time (full-time) students take up work, so colleges when setting up class schedules take this issue into account and plan classes in 2 or 3 days a week. In this way, the student gets the opportunity to work part-time in a specific company or institution. This study model is referred to as dual studies conducted in an alternating system, otherwise known as a two-track system. In addition, in dual-mode and vocational studies, study programs are improved and adapted to changing labor markets in consultation with entrepreneurs. Most examples of this type of study occur, among others, at technical studies and polytechnics. Universities consult study programs within specific fields and specializations for suggestions formulated by entrepreneurs and representatives of institutions in which students after graduation could find employment. Entrepreneurs and representatives of various institutions offering jobs for university graduates are also involved in improving apprenticeship programs held by students in specific workplaces and financial, public and other institutions. Some vocational colleges and polytechnics sign cooperation agreements with companies and institutions where students undergo internships. It is more and more often the case that thanks to the cooperation developed in this way, more and more students undergoing apprenticeships are employed in the same or similar work position in companies or institutions in which they previously had apprenticeships. More and more universities are developing business incubators in their structures that cooperate with companies and institutions that accept students for internships or employ students or graduates. Business incubators also help students to set up and run their own business and conduct research on the career development of graduates in specific fields of study.
