In continuation of our search for more lithic artifacts from Ayodhya hills, Purulia, West Bengal, last month found this tool provisionally identified as Core-tool side scraper; likely to be of mid-paleolithic age. Expert opinion sought.
In my opinion, from your pictures, this seems to be a core-on-blank and not a retouched tool. Your pictures are not orthogonal taken, so for me there are just some negatives on the dorsal face left from removals. Non of the edges are regularized (straight and fine retouched).
I agree with Jenses view. These do appear to be cores with multiple removals from several directions, possibly with some general orientation to the flake removals. However, the images do not show any evidence of intentionally shaped edges nor damage to the margins that cannot be more parsimoniously identified as from either post-depositional events or some intentional past knapping to establish more secure platform surfaces for subsequent flaking.
I"m inclined to be agree with Rusty and Jenses. Plus in the left and base photos we can see two straight lines, as if the core-tool had been...shattered ? Maybe it's just a bad quality material ?
