I have observations of 4 species and want to see the similarities using clustering method. I get a dendrogram containing all observations showing species A in cluster 1,species B and C in cluster 2 and species D in cluster 3.How can I present only the species and not the observations?

You can also represent a specie by its mean.
Hi, the dendrogram shows groups of individuals (your observations) according to variables (your 4 species). If there is a structure in your data, the species are associated with separate clusters.
There are tools for clustering variables (eg hclustvar) but it is used with a large number of variables to make sense. I'm not sure it is what you want to do.
