I would like to perform an XRD analysis on ground samples of sea urchin test. Would it be more effective to search for CaCO3 or for MgCO3 and why? Thank you in advance.
The XRD can solve the problem of the composition of almost all solids. It is not specific to this and that. The composition of the shell of sea urchins may also be calcium phosphate (if it is considered one of the skeleton of the animal). Just examine the XRD pattern if the powder of the shale and refer to the published standard Tables of USGS. MgCO3 is not a possibility. ..Regards
