If I’m looking at language variation, and expecting a gender difference between ‘style’ and ‘content’, and how does that interact with different meanings of a specific terms used by male or female? i.e. one would be more content-ful than the other?

There are hundreds if not indeed thousands of studies on style variations ( form& content) and gender. In these studies, many factors are identified and analyzed in depth. I would particularly suggest you take a look at Conversation and Gender (2011), a book edited by Susan Speer and Elizabeth Stokoe. In addition, Hardeman‘s “Gender and second language style“, Asia-Pacific Language Variation, 2016, may prove very useful to you. Best Wishes
In my perspective, you can have a look at multidimensional analysis of registers, which was elaborated by Douglas Biber. It does not focus on the gender Issue, but you can draw some inspiration from the language features he makes use of.
