Can anyone explain to me how to get the density for biosurfactant, since the density is needed to get the CMC value. Thus, from CMC value, I can get the range of concentration of biosurfactant for my experiment. I have a crude biosurfactant in liquid form. How I am suppose to vary the concentration of the biosurfactant?
You may use several easy measurements in function of concentration like surface tension, interfacial tension, conductivity. Density measurements as function of surfactant concentration can also be made, without the need of knowing biosurfactant density by itself.
At the cmc value several properties of surfactant solutions exhibit a marked change. Therefore, traditionally cmc values are determined by measuring a characteristic property as function of concentration. E.g. surface tension concentration curve changes from decreasing to constant, nearly constant or a minimum. In the latter case this indicates surface active impurities which partition from the interface to the micelles formed.
