We grow H. pylori in microaerophilic atmosphere on chocolate agar (Columbia agar works as well) for ten days in the anaerobic jar. If you want to grow the bug from gastric biopsy samples, the basic issue is the pre-analytic phase. Transport of the biopsy should not exceed 24 hrs, if placed in physiologic NaCl. However, use of specialized transport vials (e.g. Portagerm pylori) is highly recommended. When using these vials, up to 48 hrs between sampling and start of culture are possible.
