Of course and thinking of you in particular and how you fared. I told my friends "I know someone there and he is under the gun right now".
No doubt these storms are deadlier than before the ocean got so warm and powerful. I think it is us who gave this power to the sea (by making it warmer).
Yes, and it was pushed straight into Bangladesh when it hit the wall of man-made atmospheric dust, created by the overgrazing and farming of marginal lands at the western border of India and Pakistan. Several questions and images posted about the Pakistan-Arabia Dust Cloud that can cause droughts or floods depending on its position at the time the moisture is trying to move through.
The Indian city of Calcutta was devastated by a powerful cyclone that killed at least 84 people in India and Bangladesh. On Wednesday, cyclone Amfan hit coastal areas of India with ferocious wind and rain. The cyclone gradually weakens, moving North towards the state of Bhutan. Thousands of trees were uprooted, power lines were destroyed, and homes were completely destroyed. Most of Calcutta's roads are flooded, and 14 million people remain without electricity. Amfan is the first super cyclone to form in the Bay of Bengal since 1999. Restrictions imposed in the country due to the coronavirus pandemic hinder emergency response and assistance. Covid-19 and social distancing measures have made mass evacuations difficult, as temporary shelters cannot be used at full capacity. It is reported that at least 72 people were killed in India, and 12 people in Bangladesh. The chief Minister of West Bengal, mamata Banerjee, said that the destruction that the super cyclone brought to Calcutta, the state capital, was "a bigger disaster than Covid-19". Officials in Bangladesh fear that amfan will become The deadliest cyclone since cyclone Sidr, which killed about 3,500 people in 2007. As you know, most of them died as a result of the high tide of sea water. The weather Department of India predicts storm surges of water 3-5 meters high. The overall level of destruction in Bangladesh has yet to be assessed, but it is clear that the areas that were in the path of the Hurricane suffered the most. In the city of Khulna, North of Sundarbans, at least 83,000 homes were destroyed or damaged, the Dhaka Tribune reported.in the Bay of Bengal since 1999. What could help a lot, is if a "Cyclone Pathway"... could be planted, to guide cyclones quickly across India, instead of being stopped by the Pakistan-Arabian Dust Cloud, to slowly destroy everything in its path.
That cyclone should have quickly gone across India... towards Pakistan and Arabia, and then quickly across Arabia to central Africa. But as you can see from the above image, the Dust Cloud stopped its forward motion, and the cyclone hit that wall and was forced at more than a 120 degree angle from its original path. "Quickly" means only a few hours...rather than stalling and producing torrential rains for days. It would be a path planted with native edible fruit trees, native shrubs and native perennial grasslands, without any bare soil exposed.
The planted "Cyclone Pathway" should be... between 14 and 15 degrees north latitude, so that would be about 100 km. wide, and about 600 km. wide, or about 9,000 square kilometers.
If planted with native varieties of Jackfruit, bananas and mangos... that would produce food, and then an understory of scattered native shrubs, along with native grasses and native wildflowers to provide nectar and pollen for the native pollinators and honey bees that could also be kept in hives.
Joystu Dutta --Is your published work available, and did you include the interaction of the Cyclone with the Pakistan-Arabia Dust Cloud, that I showed above?
