During the process of my project on biological control I found one fungal species belong to Basidiomycetes has high antagonistic ability against many plant pathogenic fungi and also toward a particular types of perennial weeds. I would have appreciated very much if can present any details about the fungi that have more antagonistic activity rather than Trichoderma and at the same time has the ability as potential bio-herbicides. You think, Gliocladium is most competitor for antagonism than Trichoderma? But I found different conclusion. Would you please have a look to attached picture, you can see the Trichoderma was parasitized by another fungus.

Some varieties of killer yeasts produce toxins that may cause antagonism to other fungal species i.e. P. membranifaciens inhibits Botrytis cinerea because of a specific toxin. This paper would be helpful for you. http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0944501304000667

Faruq, that Gliocladium is a broad-spectrum antagonistic fungus, but from my observations, I found that Gliocladium sp. and T. harzianum were for almost equally effective against pathogenic fungi. however, for the statement of Farooq Ahmad about yeast strains, I think they are restricted to a particular type of pathogenic fungi

According to my modest experience, I found that some mycotaxes belonging to the genera Gliocladium, Chaetomium and Cladosporium have a significant biocontrol potential for certain pathogenic groups (Venturia inaequalis, Botrytis cinerea, Penicillium expansum) on apple trees and fruits , or even against certain Homoptera (Cladosporium echinulatum and C. oxysporum especially)....
But I believe that such fungal herbicidal activity is the work (especially) of certain mycotaxa inducing oidium (Ascomycota / Erisiphales) and rusts (Basidiomycota / Uredinomycetes).
By inducing symptoms "traditionally" perceived on the aerial parts of the target plant, Whereas for the biofumigation (volatile) activity acting on the juvenile stages of the weeds, Chaetomium globosum or Aspergillus fumigatus have proved their capacities.
Finally, I also suggest that the key is to search and isolate fungal taxa from ecologically "efficient" plants such as toxic plants, those with abiotic stress tolerance, invasive and competitive plants.....etc.
Dear Mr, maybe you can look into endophytic fungi, Hendersonia sp that have ability as biocontrol to inhibit the plant disease especially in oil palm.

Yes sure, to look among endophytic fungi but Hendersonia known to be strongly antagonistic against Ganoderma boninense, I am looking for a wide spectrum antagonistic fungi like Trichoderma.

Some known species of Trichoderma ,Gliocladium, Chaetomium , Penicillium , Aspergillus and Cladosporium and some yeasts respectively are the most antagonistic fungi and use as biological agents against plant diseases a . As my opinion the genus Trichoderma is the best one followed by Gliocladium.

Try Chaetomium globosum and related species. I found it particularly antagonistic to rust fungi on which I have based my opinion.
