Looking to Russian politics in Ukrainian affairs in 2014 and other war initiatives around the earth nowadays it seems that the world has not learned the lessons from its wars history. Why the mankind is so short-minded and short-sighted about the lessons of war and still believing in war as a kind of problems resolution?
Many ordinary educated citizens have surely conceived that living in peace is a precious gift. Unscrupulous decision makers have learned how to go to war and avoid the big bang. I'm afraid it's more based on the dread of being extinguished themselves than on actual learning.
You can ask the simple question: is it acceptable for a soldier in your country to leave the armed forces? In the end, the past wars have shown: no soldier = no war. But will this also be the case in the future? What do we learn from that?
I don't think man has learnt anything from past wars. Just look at the stupid posturing of the European powers today with respect to regional conflicts. Also, Hitler's invasion of Russia, the Maginot line, invasions of Afghanistan, etc.

I think Michael is right. The problem is that not peaceful people are in deciding position. Another trouble is that peaceful people with good will are naïve and vote for the kind of people Anthony mentioned.
