I have seen that there are some studies which are using human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs) xenotransplantation for bone formation in rats. Has anyone experience in this xenotransplantation with hMSCs in immunocompetent mice for bone formation or bone repair? does it really work or is there an elevated immune response?

Hi Alvaro,
We have observed that 'CaP seeded with MSCs' implants, result in high immune response in wild type mice. As a results, implants that are able to form bone in nude mice are not able of doing so in wild type mice. That is for subcutaneous implantations.
I do not know about other types of biomaterials.

Slightly different purpose, not exact answer to your question', I injected human MSCs in rnu/rnu nude rat knee which has been meniscectomized and created osteoarthritis. hMSCs, in fact, did harm and did not improve osteoarthritis. But But, cartilages made from hMSCs, ex vivo, seems to implant in rat knee, when transplanted after making some holes(injury) in rat knee cartilage. In my believe if you make bone, ex vivo, from hMSCs and transplant in the are of interest, in nude rat or nude mice, may give better results, rather than cells alone,
