Hello Sherri, if you examine the 6 major physiological elements required for microbial growth viz carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, sulfur, hydrogen and oxygen, you could pick out something. Both groups require all six, however some exceptions occur especially in terms of oxygen (redox potential) requirement. Therefore it is impossible to make such generalizations. You should make room for specifics. What I mean is you could only match some bacteria with fungi or some fungi with bacteria (with similar characteristics or requirements). pH is an important selective parameter for cultivation of both groups, however, there are some bacteria (lactic acid and acetic acid bacteria) that have their optima around the acidic range suitable for fungi. Please get the question straightened out and let's know what it is.

The way I see it you have two options. The first one is using a very broad none-selective growth medium such as chocolate agar or a soy or yeast based one, or you can use the apropiate agar for each microorganism, if the biopesticide has an effect you will see it anyway. And honestly, you only need a generic one for bacteria and a generic one for fungi. I would use a Nutrient Agar for bacteria and Sabouraud agar for fungi, in my opinion if you were to use let's say chocolate agar as a one for all you would be skewing the results since bacteria would have a more favorable enviroment. Using 2 growth mediums that are optimal for each gives you the best results since there is nothing impeding the growth of any of your samples.

@Sherri, the medium for biopesticide evaluation should be reach in sources of N and C, and neutral in pH. It is better to use 2 or 3 different media. Bacteria prefer pH between 7 and 9, fungi like 5-7, so use media with pH7, rich in N (peptone + yeast extract or soymeal), but low in sugars, with starch or glycerol as C source.

I would recommend commercially available standard non-specific media Tryptic Soy broth/agar or modified Letheen broth/agar. Both will support bacteria and fungi growth.

I concur with @Linda Dodd that non selective media are the preferred choice for growth and inhibition studies. You may run into issues with the different growth rates for bacteria and fungi. You may need to first evaluate the efficacy biocides against the two classes of microbes separately then in combinations to look for interference.

In my opinion I see you must used basic medium for bacteria like ( Nutrient agar/ broth) and another one for fungi like(PDA ) Because these microorganisms differ from each other in the conditions of their growth and nutritional requirements and the incubation period for their growth ... so can not use one growth medium for them ...
