I am using modified hummers method to synthesize Graphene Oxide, But i am unable to get the yellowish color after adding H2O2: instead i am getting a brown-greenish colour solution. I have characterized the resultant and it is not showing the hump around 310. what could be the reason for that ?
Strange, it always works, what type of graphite do You use. Try to use different one. May be You should give it more time for oxidation (after adding KMnO4), before You add H2O2.
Stirring at 350 rpm, temperature controlled using Ice Bath-Oil bath and time as per reported in the literature.
Possible reasons are: Either graphite you are using is not of good quality or oxidation conditions are not properly controlled. I suggest you to characterize your graphite sample first before using it for graphene synthesis either by XRD or RAMAN.
Btw hump around 310 is related to what characterization?
The hump around 310 is related to n-pie* transition. mainly observed when GO is single or double layered.

green colour could be reasonably attributable to the presence of metal complexes/salts as impurities. The quality of starting graphite has a scarce influence, since the oxidation occurs whether the graphite has a total sp2 structure or large amounts of sp3 carbons.
