I am using HF etching to make sharp tips on silica optical fibers and would like to hydrolyze the surface following the HF etching and then attach cross-linker molecules, which attach to the glass a silane tail-group. I'm looking for the easiest/quickest reliable way to hydrolyze the surface. I know that piranha is a good candidate; however, don't know what effect the HF has on the surface chemistry of the glass.

Any suggestions?
