It's well known that eggs of gar are toxic, especially to mammals. A few studies have examined their toxicity to non-mammals with little effect. But, gar larvae seem to be very vulnerable to predation by anything that can enter shallow water and scrape attached larvae off their substrate(sticks, vegetation, etc). Given that the eggs are toxic, does the toxicity carry through into early development of gar, such as a component of the yolk sac? I can't find any references to toxicity in gar larvae.
