SPIONS or superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles are widely used now to label stem cells and track their biodistribution with MRI.Mesenchymal stem cells especially are being tagged and tracked for therapeutic effects in various disease indications.

Hi Purva,

in the past I worked with stem MSCs and IONPs for two main applications:

1) Try to guide magnetically these cells to the target organ for transplantion and Truck them

2)Stimulate these cells to diffrentiate by mechanical induction generated by magnetic force.

Of course you have to find to functionalize the IONPs in oder to increase the interaction and the stability in the cells. But you have to avoid toxicological effects. Now I am using IONPs for drug delivery in cancer.

i have already optimized my particles under the criteria of toxicity and colloidal stability and getting reproducible results too.

Are your first and second point related to Magnetophoresis, as now a days much work is going on in this particular area

it would be great if i can get some information on external mechanical stimuli apart from using a magnet of some threshold to direct the particles in vivo
