In 1500 the ratio of average per capita income in the West (Western Europe and “off-springs” – USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand) and the South (all other countries) was approximately 1:1. Contemporary research literature offers multiple explanations to how these phenomena could have happened, but all of which, including the “Great Divergence” and “Great Convergence” Stories fail when put to long-term trend lines.
