Good day!
Can anyone help me be familiar with freshwater sponges?
I am currently trying to identify a freshwater sponge in one of my study sites. This freshwater sponge is utilized by tilapia as alternative source of food.
Attached are pictures of 2 samples I collected.
I would deeply appreciate any help that can be provided.

From the images provided they appear to be two different taxa of spongillid sponges - with greater inclinations towards Spongilla and Epihydatia respectively. I might be wrong though. But these two genera are known to be used as ingredients in feed for Cyphotilapia spp.

I did suspect spongilla for the 1st but had no idea for the second.
I am presently harmonizing the importance of the study of substrate associate biofilms in fresh water sources and parasitology relative to water quality assessment and so far i am experiencing very interesting fidings and less explored if not unexplored areas of research.
Thank you so much good Dr.! once i have put things into order can I share my teams publications with your team? maybe there is a potential avenue for research collaboration since we are both exploring areas of water quality. though i think yours is salt water relative to biology and environmental science and my team is concerned about freshwater relative to parasitology and public health.
Sorry for the delayed reply. Of course it can be done. Apart from a coastal and marine ecologists I have been an avid freshwater tropical aquarist for the last 25 years and at a very advanced level too as I maintain Asian tannin enriched biotopes and breeding tanks. Hence aquatic ecology on the whole is my oyster be it fresh or marine.
that is wonderful Dr. Abhishek! once i am thru with my preliminary runs in testing my hypothesis I will get back to you. hopefully our teams will have wonderful exchanges for project ideas in a multidisciplinary approach over our specializations.
