recently I've been implementing in matlab finite elements for a project of mine. Long story short, though the results in matlab were good, after a while I decided to compare the very same model on both abaqus and matlab (and this means same material, same dimensions, same mesh and elements). To my surprise, the results were close (+/-3%), but not identical as I would have expected. The only thing I'm not sure of now is what kind of formulation abaqus is using. For istance, now to investigate this problem I'm using elements CPE4 in abaqus and classical Q4 bilinear elements (plane strain) in matlab (theoretically, the two should coincide). Do anyone know anything about this problem?

PS: just to prevent replies in that sense, I know what a convergence analysis is, but I don't want to check convergence, I want to know why two models, identical in principle, yield to different results :)
