Has anyone experience in using the LiDAR of the new iPad and if so, what App have you used? We want to map fault structures or rather fractures of damage zones and I wonder if this can easily be resolved with this tool?
Any advise would be very much welcome.

LiDAR of new iPad Pro generated much astonishment not only for Apple lovers. App like LiDAR Scanner 3D could satisfy the request for experimentation of its integrated scanner. However, the important thing is to focus on the goal of the research and consequently on metric precision and scale you want to reach.

Our laboratory bought this tool (It was not the main purpose) and in the forthcoming days se Will start play with It. We can keep in touch to compare the results.

Hi all,
Our lab also obtained the iPad Pro recently and I have been playing around with it for the past few days. I tested two apps: "3d scanner App" and "Polycam".
First thoughts: not a very convincing tool for surveying and mapping, but I guess it was not designed for it. The resolution is quite poor so it had difficulties scanning thin/small objects. The 3d scanner app gives the possibility to "refine" the scan, but I think it's only an octree subsampling of the raw scan (cmiiw).
Andreas Busch for your specific objective it depends on the required precision; that being said, I would still recommend photogrammetry or TLS. I don't think the iPad/phone lidar is good enough (yet) for those purposes, even though the main advantage is that it generates scans very quickly and easily.
I'm curious to hear other people's experience too.
