Epithelial cells are not growing well, any help/suggestions?

I've been working with epithelial cells grown on collagen coating. They used to grow well (Image 1) but lately are not (Image 2). It looks like they attach well in the first few days but don't grow into colonies and are not the right shape. Does anyone have any idea what's wrong and what I can do to make them grow better again? Are the cells in region A and region B of the Image 1 same?
