I want to find the exact amount of Chelating agent (eg. EDTA) required to trap all the metal ions in my sample. I do not want any extra (unused) chelating agent in the sample. Is there any technique to find the minimum amount of chelating agent required ? Thanks :)
Metal EDTA complex are characterised by blue color of Patton and Reeder indicator in basic medium of pH 12. Therefore make the solution basic using sodium hydroxide solution, add a pinch of P&R indicator and add slowly EDTA solution. The color change from Red to Blue with indicate the complete chelation.
