I am trying to develop a life cycle assessment of MSW in Colombia with GaBi Software. I am trying to add the mass change in each of the pyrolysis process, like for example bio-drying, grinding...but has been little hard to get information regaring mass change in this process.

MSW mass change during the grinding process is very small and can be neglected without loss of LCA calculations accuracy. What is more important is to enter the grinding energy consumption per unit mass of MSW into the GaBi process model. GaBi LCA platform like any other LCA software (OpenLCA, etc) has other sources of uncertainties in their databases that by far exceed neglecting the mass loss during MSW grinding.

MSW is a difficult material to model because it varies from site to site and from hour to hour.
In the practical application it is sorted to eliminate all non-carbon material leaving you with a product called RDF (refuse derived fuel). Grinding will not change the mass apart from a very minor loss of moisture evaporated off through a minor rise in temperature as a result of the grinding process. The RDF will have a much higher moisture content compared to broad spectrum MSW. The RDF will generally require lower energy consumption compared to full spectrum MSW.
