When the outcome variable is binary/dichotomous (yes/no), does it make sense to report in terms of means and standard deviations?

I think you want to describe a bernoulli distributed variable. See here:

Depends what you are trying to communicate. If your variable is coded no=0, yes=1, then the mean is just the proportion of 1s.
Why don't you just report the numbers or yes and no values? Or, alternatively, the proportion of yes values and the total number of values?
