In VIGS experiment, it is possible to reduce the expression effect of a particular gene in plants, but a question we need to ask ourselves, when the mutant plant is exposed to various treatment method, either abiotic or biotic stress factors. The performance of the mutant plant becomes significantly reduced compared to their wild types, then does it mean that genes work in isolation or the knock down of the role of one gene can results in to the entire system slowdown in the plants. the question is basically asking if one gene is knocked, could there be any possibility that the role of the silenced gene could be taken up by other genes
