I would appreciate being corrected if I am wrong, but it seems that the expansion of the universe is actually an illusion caused by the variable speed of light. The same equation that models the expansion without the need for dark energy, also models the gravitational curves for galaxies without the need for dark matter. Furthermore, this same equation resolves the infinite velocities found at a singularity. For of you who are wondering, this theory proposes that time is actually a function of light so no matter where you are, you always measure the same value of c regardless of how much c varies relative to a universal time. Research THE FRAMEWORK FOR A UNIFIED THEORY OF EVERYTHING
Russell Smith Russel, before one tries to understand the complex implication of relativity in cosmology, and deduces a variable (?) speed of light from such to save other possibly completely wrong in the first place cosmological models, I’d strongly suggest to have a deep look on constants of nature, and with this more so unavoidingly iSpace theory, able to derive most but all (50+) constants of nature in exact symbolic, hence arbitrary digit precision integer geometric form, as shown in the papers and preprints freely available on my RG home.
The nothing but stunning results of iSpace theory set hard constraints on all of physics and with this so cosmology as well.
Most important is likely the recent derivation of the Quantum of time to be 1/6961 iSpaceSecond in iSpace-IQ unit system. Such clearly shows (prooves) beyond reasonable doubt with one of the actually fully correct assumptions of relativity - that speed of light c in vacuum is necesserily both constant and hence exact - as only so will fit to the exact derived equation relations for constants of nature which cannot ever be accidentally results only (neither physical due to their derived exact inter-constant dependencies nor from purely statistical arguments).

But there is always the possibility that things are more complex than one might imagine, so I will not completely rule out that c is modified by some unknown cosmological mechanism, as c is only required to be constant in vacuum and in quantum range for constants of nature to work properly there.
Any ether style medium properties might very well - and rightly so - modify the speed of light indeed (as shown simply in water or any other medium with non-zero density).
Interesting... Thanks for sharing. How does your model deal with philosophical truths regarding the beginning of the universe? For example, if time is quantized, what causes time to move from one state to the next? How did the universe begin if time began at the universe? These are the types of questions my model seeks to answer. I would be curious if your model can answer these better? Additionally, if your equations used a variable speed of light, wouldn't this show that there aren't any constants (other than geometric) like my equations suggest?
For me dark matter and dark energy are the same. Dark energy is the quantum vacuum and i have joined them as a densities system (dark energy is last a difference in the quantum vacuum density).
