The Sagnac effect is a very well-known phenomenon applied also in Laser Gyros and GPS. The Sagnac effect for Laser Gyros is detected as an interference in a closed loop of two counter-propagating coherent light waves, in line with the original derivation.

In GPS it is instead considered what occurs with just one wave. That is compared to what occurs at rest in ECIF in order to establish a global synchronization.
