Hi! I have an IR spectrum of product obtained from CO2 electroreduction in acetonitrile using sacrificial Zn anode. The product formed is normally zinc oxalate. However, at high current densities, glycolate or glyoxylate may be formed. Does the peaks at 1767 cm-1 and 1579cm-1 confirm the formation of any of these compounds? The spectra is attached here. The band at 1767 cm-1 is near the glycolate and glyoxylate carbonyl band (typically around 1750 cm-1). These two structures show bands very close to each other and is difficult to distinguish. The band at 1579 cm-1 could be due to the antisymmetric stretching mode of carboxylate ion which accompanied pairwise with another intense band near 1400 cm-1 that is the symmetric stretching of the same ion.

i) So can it be inferred that the product probably has a combination of zinc glycolate (or glyoxylate) and zinc carbonate because the carbonyl bond for carbonate normally occurs at around 1475 cm- right?.
ii) Also, what does the peak at 1388 cm-1 signify? (C-C stretch?).
