The intensity of the research and technology can be found in reputed journals based on the research domain. But the outcome is completely based on the application of those research as products and their utility for the society. The development of those technology initiated by the novel researches and these research findings are published in journals.
I feel the two things "research" and "technology" are sometimes interrelated. Most of the technological development is basically the consequences of research articles. Scientists usually publish their findings through journals and then engineers make the technological structure from those articles. However, there are some research fields that do not essentially require any practical application, for example, the advancement of pure mathematics. In these cases, a new theoretical invention is a comprehensible phenomenon without any real-life uses.
