SYTOX Green, a dye that increases in fluorescence intensity upon binding to nucleic acids, shows higher fluorescence intensity when bound to DNA (SYTOX Green-DNA complex), compared to the SYTOX Green-RNA complex (Ref: Roth et al., 1997).

Does anyone know if such a study was performed with propidium iodide (PI)? Is the fluorescence yield of PI bound to RNA similar to PI bound to DNA?

Can anyone help me? I cannot find anything on this in literature, also due to the plethora of PI products/protocols.
