In some countries, PhD students are evaluated for their work based on grades. This is not the case in the UK, however. You should only PASS or FAIL in the UK and the rest is up to you. Do these grades matter for potential job prospects?

I don't think in India also any university provides grades. The important points are,
1. The University from which degree is obtained
2. The topic on which research is carried out
3. The guide under whom research is carried out (sometimes)
4. The journals where the papers are published (having impact factor or not. If yes how high it is)
When one goes to face an interview, the above points natter much.
