Definitely...in any scientific field ..a preliminary survey about all the literature available is must.
It gives a comprehensive idea about the topic of your interest...like who has done what...what more is required to done with regard to data generation.
unless you do that you will be repeating/ reporting the work already done by some others ...which is of no value.

literature review is important for for any social or scientific stream in the life, one of the most benefit from literature for new entrance to a particular field, give some direction what done and what should done.
Thanks for invitation dear Dr.Asaad, Really I totally agree with all of the above mentioned impressive comments, Literature review represents a back bone of all scientific topics including social one, and it is locating you (position) among other extremely related researches.
“The purpose of the literature review is to ensure that no important variable that has in the past been found repeatedly to have had an impact on the problem is ignored. It is possible that some of the critical variables are never brought out in the interviews, either because the employees cannot articulate them or are unaware of their impact, or because the variables seem so obvious to the interviewees that they are not specifically stated. If there are variables that are not identified during the interviews, but influence the problem critically, then research done without considering them would be an exercise in futility. In such a case, the true reason for the problem would remain unidentified even at the end of the research. To avoid such possibilities the researcher needs to delve into all the important research work relating to the particular problem area.”

Literature review is important and essential to identify the research gap in a particular topic of research. Number of researches might have been carried out in related topics; therefore, identification of research gap will eliminate possibilities of duplication. After all, research is re- searching either for extension of existing knowledge or creation of new knowledge.
Dear Asaad, I have some opinion for this issue. I am teaching Macedonian language at a University in the Republic of Macedonia. My country is poor, I can say and the researches just reach its pick. What bother me, and it is related with your question is the following: I am Macedonian language teacher and my research are mostly connected with problems of modern Macedonian language. When I try to write about some topic, I will find out there almost no one write for this particular topic in Macedonia, so I have no background to refer,. No, if I send this article to an international journal, the editor said the topic is too narrow and always suggest that I have review literature. I am then sending a mail explaining them that it is a new area in the Macedonian language that has not been explored, but they insist on RL. Other problem is that in Macedonia there are no journals dedicated to the Macedonian language (there are some journals that are multidisciplinary in their scope). And because this journals are not intended to deal with language problem, my contribution has no great value. Another thing is that, for example, my research are no something revolutionary , still it changes the perspectives and fill in the gaps. I am very worried about RL when I am writing about the Macedonian language. If I decide to compare two languages, then I find Rl but only for the English part. I wrote a paper dealing with the speech act for expressing condolences in the Macedonian, it is a pioneer in the field of pragmatic, still the editor said that the instrument used is too old. Nut in Macedonia this instrument has not been widely explored. So the editors should have in mind the background of the country from where the paper and the author come from. For example if you check several Macedonian journals, or the journals from Slavic orientation you will see that most of them do not bother with the RL. Another thing is this globalization and the prominence of the English. In order to be published in international journals our law decides that we should translate our articles in English. So, maybe this is easy in some disciplines, but translating some constructions from Macedonian is almost impossible and I struggle a lot to do that and in the same time I have to save the original idea. This is very difficult, and sometimes even impossible. Then the paper is full with Macedonian word translated in English only for the aim to be understand by others, but in this process, a lot of the ideas lost their meaning. I have a lot to write about this issue ...
The answer to your question is YES. The significance of literature review can not be overlooked. Actually, it gives us the important insights of the work done by others and the need to do what is undone, the literature gap. Even it helps us to contextualize our findings to those found by others. Therefore, in my humble opinion, it serves as the foundation and the backbone for the research process.
Yes, the literature review is of crucial importance in all fields of research. It guides us to gaps in the literature. Moreover, literature also helps us to use better methodology as well as contextualize our results.
Literature and review are very important in any scientific field because it provide the researchers with guideline for their researches and it helps in formulation of hypothesis .
