Probably not as a general rule, especially for MDR bugs in settings as ICUs, but can be of use for community-acquired microorganisms such as CA-MRSA, S. pneumoniae, N. gonorrhoeae, E. coli resistant to quinolones, etc.
Just make sure you know which breakpoints the institutions used and if both of them follow the same guidelines. It's either CLSI or EUCAST
I agree with the previous answers. The question is relevant in many countries as only a few institutions with a good microbiology lab can develop a good antibiotic policy.
Ideally the answer is no as the patient population as well as the micro environment of each hospital is different. But for community acquired cases (in the OPD) it may be relied upon.
I would not recommend it for the reasons that you can read in the previous answers and because each hospital has its independent population as far as bacteria are concerned, it could probably be extrapolated to infections acquired in the community only.
Agree with the previous answers. It is not reliable to use for inpatient population. Populations and antibiotic practices may(and usually) differ in two intituations.
Totally agree with debabrata sir as the environment of each hospital is different from the other and also the spectrum of infections will not be the same. We cannot implement antibiogram of one hospital to the other also because the pattern of resistance and spectrum of organisms will be different.
In the era of evidence based medicine it will not be prudent to extrapolate and use the antibiogram of one institution for the other institution. Although at the back of our mind we may be tempted to do so, but than species and pattern of resistance may vary. It can vary in different ICU's of the same institution also due to different preferences of antibiotics and lot other variables.
