Does Hitrap Q column needs to be activated(recharged)?

Hi guys, I am currently using Hitrap Q of GE's. I read that some people use 0.5N NaOH to activate Q resin(to charge negative). Is it necessary? I read GE's catalog and it did not mention about it so I am worry about the quality of resin.
