elastomeric bearings in automotive application are often filled with ethylen glycol to influence the damping behavior.
Im wondering if there are any interactions between ethylen glycol and a compound of natural rubber and polybuthadiene, especially at high temperatures (~ 100°C). Can i expect swelling or does it affect the thermo-oxidative ageing of the polymer?

Natural rubber is cis-1,4-polyisoprene composed of repeating units in which C=C double bond lies in the middle of the unit. It does not contain a functional group that interacts with the hydroxy groups of ethylene glycol "which is a dialcohol". The same applies to polybutadiene.
If these hydrocarbon polymers are cross-linked, reactions with ethylene glycol is also ruled out.
Unless these polymers produce reactive intermediates (such as radicals or cations or anions) at some sites in the polymeric chain may be upon heating or irradiation, it is difficult to think of their interaction with a compound such as 1,2-ethanediol.
