One of the assumptions of the classical way of thinking is determinism.This means that every change can be presented as a trajectory system through space, following fixed laws of nature.Those laws determine the trajectory towards future, which implies predictability. Also these laws determine the trajectory towards the past, which implies reversibility. Does determinism in itself imply predictability?
since the post uses the word trajectory perhaps I may be forgiven a humorous counter example to this being true taken from my days in the artillery. There was some discussion about whether the adoption of self propelled artillery with fixed barrels would result in the shells impacting in the same place. The answer turned out, unsurprisingly, to be no because as Luís Nobre Gonçalves points out above 'even when trajectories are smooth predictability is limited by uncertainties' and this applies both to artillery shells and classical determinism.
This is all right! The world around us consists of an infinite number of deterministic processes. By tracking the trajectory of a deterministic process, you can predict its future. Unfortunately, we are surrounded by the same endless number of helpless people, as, for example, you and I. Therefore, I suggest you make money using my forecasting technique. Regards, Vyacheslav
