Many research has been done on the use of Chitosan as an adsorbent material. When I was studying the material, I noticed that it was leaching organics when I did a leaching test. Are there any recommendations to prevent organic leaching from chitosan beads?
Chitin is a natural polymer extracted from shrimp or crab shells and is most abundant polysaccharide.Chitosan polymer is useful for water treatment processes.Chitosan beads modified with ZnO nanoparticles (Cs/ZnO NPs) is useful to remove permethrin, an insecticide in agriculture.Chitosan-silver nanoparticles (Cs-Ag NPs) is used to remove the persistant herbicide.Chitosan and materials based polymer have an enormous potential to efficiently remove hydrocarbons from contaminated water.
Chitosan does not leach organics when used as an adosbent to remove pollutants.
