The field capacity (FC) is the water-retaining capacity of a soil usually including both the hygroscopic and capillary water of the soil and being expressed as a percentage of the dry weight of the soil. In long-term conservation agriculture systerm, soil FC would be enhanced mainly due to the increase of SOC, but the determination of FC with large amound of samples is not easy. Does anyone knows how to determination soil field capacity in a simple way? or have relevant instruments........
You better try Pressure Plate apparatus. Where you can maintain 0.33 bar Pressure. And can determine FC easily.
Field capacity of the soil can be determined by using pressure plate apparatus... However it can also be determined by simple field pond method where a pond is certain dimensions is prepared, flooded with the water, covering surface by polythene sheet so for avoiding losses by evaporation and transpiration of water...Field capacity is the water retention capacity of a soil whereby water is hold by soil particles after cessation of rainfall or irrigation following by draining water along with gravitational pull so called gravitational potential...After removing water from macro and micro pores, exact amount of water with a definite tension or suction present in the soil is called as field capacity... measure the amont of water present in 24 hours interval till constant value of moisture came...This is the soil water content at field capacity...may also be converted into units of tension or suction or potential...
