The details of that is what I'm trying to gather information on. I think the 'delicate' nature of diatom tests may be due to their tests being uniformly porous so as to enable nutrients & waste to pass through, while radiolarians are active 'grazers' with specific portals for feeding and elimination, therefore tests are not uniformly porous.
