I am currently struggling to achieve a good surface finish on mounted Zn-2 samples. Both grinding and polishing (with SiC, silica and diamond) resulted in embedding of the grinding/polishing media in the sample. For grinding, I have now mostly fixed this by hand grdinign on waxxed SiC papers.
For polishing however, I have yet to have much success. I have received multiple suggestions ranging from irbo or electro polishing, to using oil based lubricant and diamond suspensions, oil-based lubricant + diamond paste, to using IPA + water based diamond suspensions. I currently have limited time and resources so I can only focus on one of these options for polishing.
I could find very little literature regarding such an uncommon alloy (for research) and most microprep guides/books dont' have Zn specific routes. Any suggestions?
Thanks!
