It's not that difficult:

1. Plate coating (best if you can use tetanus toxin) with 5 µg/mL 4 °C, overnight in 0.1 mol/L carbonate buffer pH 9.6

2. Remove the fluid

3. store the plates frozen

4. wash the plates using PBS, 0.3 mol/L NaCl, 0.1% v/v Tween 20, 4 times

5. Incubate with samples and standards (beware: this assay is highly sensitive: use a large range of dilutions) You can use a human serum / standard. To quantify this, a large number of commercial assay is available. Dilute the samples in PBS, 0.3 mol/L NaCl, 0.1% Tween 20, 3% BSA; 90 min room temp.

6. Wash

7 incubate with Protein-A-HRP (or Protein G-HRP). They will recognize human antibodies as well as murine. (http://www.seramun.com/products/detection-systems.html), dilute in the same buffer as used for samples, 90 min, room temp.

8. wash

9 substrate reaction 20 min (TMB: http://www.seramun.com/products/substrates/horseradish-peroxidase.html)

10. stop with 1 mol/L H2SO4

11. measure at 492 nm.

that was the self made version.

For a semi-commercial version you can use the plates, buffer, standards, controls from the kit. The samples are from murine origin, so you have to change the conjugate to the Protein-A-HRP mentioned above. Most of the commercial assays using here a polyclonal anti-human-IgG-antibody-HRP. Make sure that you have the same enzyme label as in the commercial test. Make also sure that you didn't get a competitive assay. The are already not species specific but I have no idea if those assays are on the market.
