Zinc ion analysis is traditionally performed using atomic absorption spectroscopy and glassware/plasticware is normally acid washed and rinsed in distilled water. I am wondering whether I need to treat the plasticware in my cell culture experiement (culture flasks and microeppendorfs) in the same manner beforehand to avoid potential zinc leaching causing false positive signals.

An nitric acid wash would be appropriate since as far as I know zinc is not used in the manufacture of plasticware.

I agree with Bruce as an acid wash would be enough unless you know the plasticware has Zinc in its composition
