In our lab we are forced to prepare mobile phases for HPLC with use of water from urban water supply (of course after proper procedures of distillation, deionization etc.). The thing is that our water is very hard and we are noticing it with everyday use (eg. when making a coffee).
Recently I had a problem with ghost-peaks and decided to boil water before analysis. Ghost-peaks disappeared, but the backpressure went very high. I switched back to unboiled water and pressure seems dropping but very very slowly.
After boiling I did cool-down the water, but it was still warm (not hot!). The warmer the water, the more hard it becomes. So I am wondering could water-hardness be a thing in my case?
Best,
Ola
