I am working with some Hepatic Stellate Cells (HSCs), but I need some more information on culture maintenance, materials for optimal growth, etc. I have read several papers, but I was wondering if anyone knew of a book that provided a good overview for culturing hepatic tissues.

Dear Joseph, personally I am not a liver specialist, but one of my colleagues, Dr. Christian Liedtke at the University Clinic of the RWTH Aachen University has already isolated and cultured several cell types from liver, such as HSCs. Dear Joseph, we have cultivated freshly isolated HSC from rat liver. We have also HSC T6 cell line. Freshly isolated and cell lines differ in morphology, proliferation and expression of cytoskeletal markers. Maintaining of freshly isolated HSC in culture is limited due to myofibroblastic conversion. But cultivation conditions are simillar. For futher questions you can send me a message.

Dear Joseph, if you are talking about primary human HSC then I recommend Sancho-Bru P et all J Hepatol. 2005 Aug;43(2):272-82. We have also experience with LX2 cells. If this could help, feel free to contact me.
