I am looking for different plate (or liquid) assays that can be used to identify particular metabolic capabilities of functions of a geomicrobiological community.

Any suggestions to add to the list below would be appreciated!

So far I have identified:

CAS plates (for siderophore production)

Casein plates (acid production produces clear halos)

Chalk plates (acid production breaks down CaCO3)

Phenylphthalein phosphate plates (turns red if phosphotases liberate phosphate)

4-methylumbelliferane (MUF) labelled substrates for assays to determine specific enzyme capabilities (galactosidases, esterases, phosphotases, sulfatases)

Motility Plates (swarming motility)

Congo Red Binding Assay (for EPS production)
