I'm interested in your previous experience with growing diatoms in plexiglass PBRs. I intend to use the photobioreactor for monospecific cultures/experiments with Skeletonema costatum. It has a diameter of approx. 150 mm, approx. 560 mm in height and a volume of 5 L.
Generally, sterilization is obtained by the following techniques: (i) Autoclaving: Usually, the most effective method. Uses high steam pressure that produces a high sterilising temperature; (ii) Sterilisation by Filtration: Good for small volumes. Uses sterile filters (pore size of 0.2µm); and (iii) Sodium hypochlorite (Aka Bleach): Good for large volumes for aquaculture. 1 to 5ml of bleach is added per litre, gently mix, and allow to stand for several hours away from direct sunlight. To neutralise the water and bleach solution, a Sodium thiosulfate stock solution is prepared using 250g per litre. From this 1ml is added to the solution for every 4ml of bleach added.Hope it will help

Bleach sterilization would be preferred in your case. Fill the reactor with distilled water and add bleach
Through the use of potassium permanganate in limited concentrations, I have a researched this subject
